2 Photos

Today I'd like to talk about 2 photos. I guess the world was very different when I was younger. Not many people I knew had a camera. Photos were for special occasions. We'd have a school photo or photos when cousins came to stay or if we went on holiday. When I was a child, photographs were taken on reels of film that needed to be developed. It was usually a couple of weeks before you could see the photo, look after the event had happened. Nowadays, everything is instant:)

This photo must be from the 1960's. I guess I must be about 7 or 8 years old but I can't be 100% sure. It's taken outside the house I grew up in from the age of 6 years old in Abbot's Nook, Chester. If I remember rightly, we were just playing in the street outside my house. My eldest sister, Terri, is in the background on the right hand side. I'm not sure who the other person is. Possibly a cousin. I think my eyes look like "anime eyes", sort of dark and upside down half-moon shape:) I remember the jumper I was wearing it was very warm (pure wool). The collar is quite retro.You don't see jumpers with that kind of collar very often these days. 

This next photo is about 12 years later in 1980. It was taken in a photo booth in Leeds where I'd gone to a music festival called Futurama. I went with one of my school friends. It was a really good 2-day festival of punk, post-punk and new wave. I doubt you would know any of the bands but Siouxsie and the Banshees, Echo & the Bunnymen, Soft Cell and The Psychedelic Furs were maybe the most well known. My hair was red (I think the hair colour was called "Fire") and my outfit consisted of jeans, T-shirt, Leather Jacket and diamanté earrings:) I remember meeting a famous Radio DJ at the train Station. A couple of weeks after taking this photo I cut off all my hair:) At the time I really I liked this ¨Glam¨fashion äs I was a big David Bowie fan:)

I think the thing the photos have in common is that they were both happy times in my life.

A Fun Day Out With Friends

I think the last Fun Day Out I had with my wife and 2 friends in Algarrobo a couple of weeks back. It was actually with one of my oldest Chilean friends, Silvina, and her partner, Jorge. They have a plot of land (a parcela) about 20 minutes from Algarrobo and they invited us there for lunch, and to spend the afternoon together.  I've know Silvina since 1996. She was a student in my first teaching job in Chile at UMCE, where she was training to be an English teacher. Her and Jorge have been together for about 20 years and we've often spent time together over the years. Jorge has a great sense of humour and he is really easy going. We both share a similar taste in music too. When we were younger (ha, ha) we used to go out dancing, often to Blondie or some clubs in Bellavista.  We have also been to dozens of concerts together over the years too. New York Web Quest

 Hi Fau Bloggers: Today I'd like you to do a web-quest on New York, and at the same time discovery some interesting things about this iconic city.  I've been in New York twice. The first time for 8 hours, and the second time. just 8 days. Both times I met up with a childhood friend, Martin, who lived in the city for about 20 years. Martin and I played in a band together when we were younger.  He's a really amazing drummer. He actually played for a number of underground punk or post-punk bands in New York and became a well know figure on the underground scene there (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXyv-Ww5hg8).  Anyway, the week I spent in New York was amazing in so many ways. One really cool thing is that every corner you walk around, you encounter a scene from a Hollywood movie.  Of all the things I did in NYC, I think my favourite would be a tie between taking a 2 hour boat ride around Manhattan Island, and walking over Brooklyn Bridge. Five Favourites

 Hi Fau Bloggers. Today I'm going to ask you to write about 5 favourites & why. The categories are: A song, a film, a piece of technology, a book, and a souvenir or trinket. The song I'm going to share with you is a song from 1971 by David Bowie called Quicksand. I really love the lyrics and all the images they conjure up. Bowie was about 24 years old when he wrote this song but he sounds so wise. I love this track because it reminds me of my youth (as well as demonstrating Bowie's versatility). My favourite film is most probably Brazil by Terry Gilliam. Released in 1985, it's is a "dystopian science fiction black comedy" (Wikipedia), which I must have seen at least 10 times. Actually, it's a nightmarish love story. I love it because it has so many bits of hidden humour. It may look a little dated nowadays but I still think it's amazing.
